TORs: Trainer for Trauma-Informed Care Workshops

1. Background

The activity is organized as part of the project “The Relentless Resilience – Combating Gender-Based Violence in Albania”, funded by the UN Trust Fund (UNTF). It is implemented in collaboration between Streha Center and “Shelter Edlira Haxhiymeri”. The initiative aims to strengthen the capacity of professionals working in shelters to provide trauma-informed care and support to survivors of gender-based violence (GBV).

2. Objective

The primary objective of this assignment is to enhance the knowledge and skills of caseworkers, psychologists, and social workers working directly with beneficiaries at shelters through three specialized workshops. The training will provide practical tools for understanding trauma, implementing trauma-informed care, managing crisis situations, and ensuring self-care to prevent burnout.

3. Scope of Work

The trainer will be responsible for designing and delivering three workshops on the following topics:

  1. Understanding Trauma and Its Impact on Survivors
    • Definition and types of trauma;
    • Psychological and physiological effects of trauma;
    • Trauma responses and coping mechanisms.
  2. Practical Approaches to Trauma-Informed Care in Shelters & Crisis Intervention and De-escalation Techniques
    • Principles of trauma-informed care;
    • Best practices for working with trauma survivors in shelters;
    • Crisis intervention strategies and de-escalation techniques.
  3. Self-Care for Shelter Staff: Preventing Burnout and Compassion Fatigue
    • Identifying signs of burnout and compassion fatigue;
    • Stress management techniques for shelter staff;
    • Building resilience and maintaining professional well-being.

4. Deliverables

  • Development of training materials, including presentations;
  • Delivery of three workshops (two in April and one in June 2025);
  • Pre- and post-training assessments to evaluate knowledge gain;
  • Submission of a final report summarizing key takeaways, participant feedback, and recommendations.

5. Duration and Payment

  • Each training session will be equivalent to two working days in terms of payment.
  • The first two training sessions will be conducted at the end of April, and the third one in June 2025.
  • Payment will be processed upon successful completion of each training session and submission of the required report.

6. Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Advanced degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or a related field;
  • Proven experience in trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, and self-care strategies;
  • Prior experience in conducting training for professionals working in shelters or similar settings;
  • Strong facilitation and communication skills;
  • Fluency in Albanian (preferred), with a working knowledge of English.
