Position Title: Expert for Drafting and Preparing a Booklet on Sexual Orientation and Gender
Project: Albanian Rainbow Youth Empowerment Initiative

  • “Streha Center” Background

Streha Center provides services to the LGBTIQ+ community in Albania and the region in cases of emergencies, including shelter and other psycho-social services for the empowerment of LGBTI+ individuals. The aim of Streha is to empower and assist LGBTIQ+ individuals, mainly youth, through its multidisciplinary and residential services, capacity-building of service providers, public awareness, and advocacy, in order to overcome barriers and difficulties faced by the LGBTI+ community in families and society. The primary focus of  Streha is the empowerment and reintegration into society of at-risk youth within the LGBTI+ community (aged 18 to 29). The service is provided in the capital city of Albania, Tirana. However, it is not limited to the country and often offers services to Albanian’s youth from neighboring countries, such as Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Montenegro.

  • Project Background

The overall objective of this project is to improve LGBTI+ people’s situation in Albania through empowering them and changing negative stereotypes associated with the LGBTI+ community.

This project aims to improve the situation of LGBTI+ people through the interaction of three key pillars:

(1) empowering key grassroots professionals in rural areas through Workshops in support of providing services to LGBTI+ people;

(2) empowering LGBTI+ youth in Shkodër, Durrës, and Vlora through connecting and integrating them in local communities and services, and increasing their information about their rights.

(3) changing the negative stereotypes associated with the LGBTI+ community in Albanian society through social media campaigns. The chosen expert will be responsible for both designing the module and conducting training sessions for caseworkers in residential services.

  •  Objective

The objective of this assignment is to draft and prepare an informative booklet on sexual orientation and gender. This booklet will serve as an educational resource for LGBTI+ youth, professionals, and the general public to increase knowledge, improve understanding, and promote acceptance within Albanian society.

  • Key Responsibilities

The expert will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Research and Content Development:
    • Draft content that addresses the fundamental concepts of sexual orientation, gender identity, and related topics in an accessible and engaging manner, especially in the context of Albania and LGBTI+ rights.
    • Ensure that the information is aligned with local cultural sensitivities while promoting inclusivity and human rights principles.
  • Structure and Design Input:
    • Organize the booklet into clear, well-defined sections (e.g., definitions, rights, challenges, support networks, etc.).
    • Collaborate with the project’s graphic designer to ensure the booklet is visually appealing and easy to read.
  • Alignment with Project Goals:
    • Ensure the booklet contributes to the empowerment of LGBTI+ youth and grassroots professionals in the target areas of Shkoder, Durres, and Vlora.
    • Align the booklet’s messaging with the project’s goal of changing negative stereotypes in Albanian society.
  • Review and Feedback:
    • Incorporate feedback from the Project Coordinator, LGBTI+ advocates, and other relevant stakeholders to refine and finalize the booklet.
  •  Deliverables
  • A draft version of the booklet for review and feedback.
  • A final version of the booklet, including all necessary revisions, formatted and ready for publication.
  • A summary report the rationale behind the content structure, and the intended impact of the booklet.
  •  Required Qualifications and Experience
  • Proven experience in content creation, particularly in the areas of gender, sexual orientation, and LGBTI+ rights.
  • Strong research and writing skills with the ability to present complex concepts in a clear and accessible manner.
  • Knowledge of Albanian cultural and societal dynamics, particularly concerning LGBTI+ issues.
  • Excellent collaboration skills and experience working with graphic designers or creative teams.
  • Experience working on projects related to LGBTI+ empowerment, social inclusion, or human rights is preferred.
